Smoke & Maple Gastropub

What's Coming to Avenir Town Center in Palm Beach Gardens

Smoke & Maple Gastropub

About the Business

Smoke & Maple is a locally owned gastropub concept opening its first location right here in Avenir Town Center.

Founded by Palm Beach Gardens locals Joel Hartunian, Brendan O’Hara, and Nick and Tara Lanier, the concept was created to bring a “rustic refined” dining experience to the area, blending elevated cuisine with an approachable, welcoming atmosphere.

What They Offer

  • Elevated comfort food with global influence
  • Raw bar and fresh oysters
  • Craft cocktails, local beers, and curated wines
  • Signature items like their smash burger
  • An indoor-outdoor bar experience

With more than 100 years of combined restaurant experience, the team aims to deliver a high-end yet relaxed dining option for both everyday meals and nights out. The ownership team are longtime Palm Beach Gardens residents with deep ties to the local hospitality scene. Their focus is on creating jobs and giving back to the community.

Construction Update

Nick and Joel recently shared a video update on “The Avenir Social Group” Facebook page.

Anticipated Opening

Smoke & Maple plans to host a job fair in May, with an opening targeted for June.

Meet the Owners

Joel Hartunian moved to Palm Beach Gardens from Connecticut in 2014 and began his career at The Cooper. He is known for his creativity behind the bar, where he and Nick first became close friends.

Brendan O’Hara relocated from New York in 2020 to open Lucky Shuck Oyster Bar and Tap House. A former musician and oyster farmer, Brendan is also a husband and father. Having grown up in the Caribbean, he found Florida’s lifestyle to be a natural fit.

Tara Lanier is a Palm Beach Gardens native who has worked in hospitality since the age of 15, starting at California Pizza Kitchen in the Gardens Mall. She has experience across nearly every role in the industry and shares her daughter Charlotte and stepdaughter McKenzie with her husband Nick.

Nick Lanier, also a Palm Beach Gardens native, began his career at 15 as a dishwasher and busboy at Scotty B’s Drafthouse. Over the years, he worked at several local establishments and now spends his free time coaching his daughter’s sports teams through PBGYAA.

The four partners previously opened Lucky Shuck together in Jupiter, where they developed a strong working relationship and committed to building something of their own.

The team is excited to bring a new gathering place to Palm Beach Gardens, a community that has played a major role in their journey. They see Avenir as the ideal setting to blend an “Old Florida” feel with a modern, easygoing lifestyle.
